The girls might be over-exciting Larry a bit, probably not much you can do about that, but just beware of him overdoing it on his wound.
What kind of biting are the girls doing? Is it keep away and leave us alone biting that is sending a message rather than trying to do real harm? This would be quite likely if they have been in a home that wanted to pet them and didn't really understand their needs. The other factor would be territory - if they have fiercely protected a small territory and now have a bigger territory even more worth defending that can be an issue. The best way forward is generally patience and not trying to touch them and respecting their space as much as possible. They are smart so they will learn you mean only good things.

I would use your own judgement Kikgoos, if you feel he is using his legs again properly but Larry will only use it if it feels comfortable to him. He seems to be moving about same as normal, I'll have a good look at him later and see how the wound looks and feels then decide. Just feeling bad for him looking up at the squeaks and not having anyone to play with hehe, guess I just want to distract him with a new wheel. Bright yellow tic tac 16" ooooooooo. Xx

Hmmm good question, I wouldn't say I'm getting a frightened vibe as they come right up to me so I'm wondering territory. I will do the same thing with them as I did with the boys, which was a very slow process. Whilst Barry was never a fan of being handled as such, he wouldn't bute and Larry will let me scoop him up for some attention most of the time. Long complicated journey this Degu lark haha. Merry xmas all xx

If he's moving normal now I personally would put it in, he will definitely need something to occupy him.

Larry had a second post op check up today. Lump still there! He is eating and drinking and moving fine. Normal poop. No pain when touching there or around his abdomen. They measured it, want me to keep him on the pain meds with them being anti inflamatory and check again next week.

Have they mentioned what it might be?

He said he feels fairly confident it isn't a hernia but said it could just be general healing or something to do with what they use to close everything up can sometimes cause a reaction. They said if it hasn't shrunk in size by this time next week then they may xray or scan and take a closer look. Xx

Wonder if it could just be tissue that has collected and started to heal in a little mass, i'm sure it will be fine but your on top of things.

I hope so. I still have some hard scar tissue from when I had a kidney removed that doesn't cause me any trouble. Hoping it is something similar. Meanwhile he has been given the all clear to play in a shiny new 16" tic tac wheel, so he seems pretty pleased with himself haha. Xx

YAY!! I bet he is right tickled with that!! He seems to be. The females aren't quite so successful with their wheel. Nibble insists on sitting on top of it whilst glaring at me and scratch has actually managed to bite through the paintwork. Building the divide tomorrow so they can view each other. From what I can tell so far, Nibble is the boss out of her and scratch and I sense it will be her and Larry that have the most trouble going forward. Scratch stacks up the food dishes when they are empty? Funny things. Hope you are all enjoying the holidays xx

I can just picture a little goo roosting angrily on the wheel top. Would love to see a pic if you can catch them in action Best of luck with the building! Sounds like Scratch is showing her disapproval of empty bowls--love it!

When I first got Reggie, she didn't know how to use a wheel as she'd never seen one before. I caught her running on the top of it one morning and even now she uses the back of it as a launch pad to the next level of her cage.
She's learned how to use it now, but only really uses it when she's on heat.

Silly goo. Xx

Thanks.
Larry is pretty swollen on his groin :-( called the vet (typical it is new years day).
They said to keep on with his pain meds and maybe get him to sit quietly and ice it. I was like, errm have you ever handled a Degu? Not surprisingly his answer was no.
He is eating and drinking, area not red, I've taken out his wheel again. His normal cheeky self, made a quick escape earlier to run over to take a pine cone off the tree, which was removed from him immediately and is now sulking in his cage.
Xx

ROFL . . . I don't see that happening. I don't suppose he helped you make an appointment to get in . . . or a recommendation to just show up today or tomorrow morning?
Are you able to very gently palpate the swelling?
