So far I have just replaced all the plastic parts with wood. I am planning to add more levels but thought I would wait a bit to see how they use the cage.. I would definetly do it if I kept any babies. I don't think Rosie is pregnant. She is much smaller than Maisie and growing at a more normal rate. So it is just Maisie to worry about. In a way I hope she is pregnant because otherwise there must be some other problem behind her weight gain. They don't get any food that is not suitable for degus and have plenty of space to be active.

The footprint of the XL seems to about 115x65cm which is around 7000cm2, so if you added in 2 full area levels to make 4 levels you could fit 4 comfortably and up to 6 allowing minimum area per degu.

Thanks. Once I am sure she is pregnant I think that would be a good idea. It would also eliminate any large drops which might be dangerous for babies.

Thanks Moletteuk for answering that! I was going to do that, but I have had a very full day at doctor appointments with my Mum today.

This is Maisie today. How long do you guys think until she is due? I'm going to the seller tomorrow with this picture and more! I think I will ask that they agree to cover any vet expense that I may need and torehome any males in the litter.

She shouldn't be too far off from delivery, I would think. Have you added the extra levels?

Haven't seen any movement yet. We've only had her 62 days and she was supposedly 54 days old. I was assuming she had been left too long with her dad and was just pregnant then. But it look more like she is almost due now.

I have the wood ready but it was my job for the weekend. They are out with my son now and she is running around as usual but so huge! I have ordered a new bed via internet, but I think when I go to the shop tomorrow I will ask them to give me something suitable.

My pups all love floor toys they can climb or nibble. And the carrot mobiles from pets at home they like to pull on them

ROFL! NTG!! I love those!!
Christine . . . I hate to say it, but she could have upwards of two weeks to go, and there is the chance she will get much larger. She could have been impregnated at six weeks of age, and so could have a week to two yet to grow. You need to keep a good eye on her . . . being so young, delivery can be very hard on her. She will need lots of TLC.
