Since brain been on his own I've notice he's been over grooming his face a lot. Could this be down to loneliness or stress?

More than likely! How long does he have to go? Two weeks?

Yes and looks like sweeps doesn't have too much longer either she's really starting to show now. She used to be so slender

It's a shame - if you knew they were both expecting, you could put them all together now!

Ella isn't pregnant so would be too risky

Sometimes hair loss around the mouth is another symptom of dental issues, which you had wondered about. Did you have his molars looked at?

I asked the vet about it and they said they are happy with his teeth

Sorry to be a bother, but did you specifically ask after his molars? Do you see any other symptoms of tooth trouble, such as slow eating, food falling out the side or front of his mouth when he eats, selective eating/refusing food he normally enjoys, pawing at his mouth?

Other than him grooming everything else seams to be normal. Only time he's not constantly grooming is when he's got his girl time then he just sits and watches his girls or cuddles up for a nap with them

Well . . . degus are also prone to experiencing some Alopecia, so it is possible that the hair loss is not grooming but Alopecia. However this is something that usually isn't long lasting and fairly quickly corrects itself. There is not visible irritation, redness, or swelling in the photo you posted, so there shouldn't be a skin problem. Just keep an eye on it . . . it should begin to grow back in fairly soon. It's just unusual for a degu that is by itself to have hair loss in that area as a result of grooming. Unless that degu is chewing on closely placed bars in the cage, which can then rub the hair off. Grooming to the point of baldness usually involves teeth, and being able to use his own teeth to reach his cheek would be a bit like us trying to lick our own elbows . . . it just doesn't work. If he is scratching the hair away, then something must be causing irritation, which would need your vets investigation.
Sorry about the long and rambling . . . I was thinking "aloud" through my fingertips. LOL!

Gorgeous photos! Sweeps reminds me of a little horse with the white stripe running down the middle of her head. Hope Brain's hair loss ends up being something easy to treat!

He's eating normally and I haven't seen him pawing at his face as much as he was so hopefully it will grow back soon. He's enjoying his little girly sessions still but all they want to do is have a cuddle it's really cute not long now until he can be in with them all the time

Great to see his fur has all grown back! It's been 4 weeks since he was neutered hasn't it? When are you planning on putting Brain in with the girls? So excited to see them all together playing one big happy family! When they start to show they're usually in their last few weeks of pregnancy so it definitely shouldn't be long!

Going to wait the 6 weeks because of Ella being in there too but he's been having more regular visits up to the girls so he's not needing to talk to them through the bars as much. I'm hoping sweeps only has a small litter of 2 or 3 so we can keep them all. Sweeps hasn't been as active the past couple of days and showing so not too much longer now

Fingers crossed all goes smoothly for Sweeps and that it is a small litter.
Are you prepared for the birth? Is the nest in a reasonable place, not perched high up? Is the bar spacing OK to stop babies escaping?
