Thank you for sharing that. That is really interesting. I wonder if Siamese gerbils are more than just a colour variation then?

perhaps! like i say, never seen another one with his colouring. I also didn't take him because of the tail kink, since he was my first ever gerbil, but i'm glad i did. like i say, the only time i've seen another was on the front of the gerbil food that pair ate:

Just googled "Seal point Gerbils" and it came back with the information that that term refers only to cats. In gerbils it is call Burmese. That is as far as I got though, LOL!

introduced chip to the calmer of my gerbils, Acorn, today. Nose to nose through the bars of chip's cage. They barely noticed each other XD i thought it was time they actually saw each other face to face, instead of just catching their scent, but they didn't seem to care XD this was better than years ago when my friend was holding one of their gerbils and passed their other gerbils cage, and it leapt out of his hands and onto the side of the cage, basically going crazy vicious. my friend got well bitten trying to pry him off the cage :S so i'm glad that my attempt didn't go that way XD

Interesting. I never thought to introduce my gerbils to my degus. I even kept them in different rooms in case the scent of the other would freak them out.

it doesn't seem to bother either of them. i thought it might cause a problem, but i have my degu cage right underneath the gerbils, so their scents have intermingled from day one and none of them seem to care. sometimes chip gets annoyed if ash or acorn kicked some bedding or poop out into his cage, but otherwise they aren't bothered. i've seen people who keep gerbils and degu together, and they groom each other and stuff, though i think i'd be too scared to do that given the size difference!
also chip, now that he has claimed his stuffed animal as a friend, has peed on it and now my room is stinking. so i shall have to wash his friend. i don't think he'll be happy with me.
