Howdy, neighbor!! Yeah . . . I agree completely, there are the good and the bad things about that store. They are where we got our second pair, after one of our first two degus died suddenly. They are also where we got our third pair, again when one died and the remaining two became so depressed they were slowly dying, but they turned out to be females instead of the males were were assure they were . . . and THAT is a whole other story! LOL! Do you know how to identify the sexes? If not, here is a link that really makes it pretty easy! deguworld.proboards.com/thread/13070/degus

Have you seen the rude comment on your photos? Can you delete it?
I personally would just leave it now, he might bite it off. Or it'll fall off or get knocked off through usage, running around etc if the bone really is broken. X

Uh Huh!! Me too!! First time I saw, I was sure something was seriously wrong with the boy likewise involved. I means, seriously, how could something that long fit inside??? Anyway, once one of the boys got the hang of it, the other two followed, and then it was party time. Thankfully they were in a room we could close the door to. LOL!

First time I saw it was when a friends daughter was here helping me. I think her comment summed it up nicely - 'oh yuk, that's gross!'

I agree it's probably a good thing it has come off. Keep an eye out for the swelling and redness spreading or getting worse.
Do you have a vet figured out just in case he might need antibiotics?

You will most likely need a vet at some point, so you might need to get creative in tracking one down, and I would recommend you do this sooner rather than later. Can the local vets refer you to anyone, are there any rescue places or even zoos that could make a recommendation, any other small animal forums for rats, hamsters etc where you may find a recomendation?

I suspect she might! Under the health section, there's a sticky thread with a list vets, as used by members. There are a couple of Canadian ones already on there!
