I'm so glad to hear he is doing good!! I hope that all is excellent inside his mouth and with his molars, and that he has no issues at all with the sedation. Will she be using a whiff of gas?

GOOD GRIEF!!! What is with all the +20% crud?? Tip?? That just seems WAY over the top! OUCH. If you had comparison quotes, do you think they would come down at all, or does being in London count as all the reason they need to have such high prices? I know the vets in our city are much more expensive than in other cities.

Are you an early bird, or a night owl?

The 20% is tax DC It's a little odd that they haven't broke down things into estimated units of anaesthesia etc as well, but it's definitely steep! I know they're in Luton, but have you thought about asking Little Bites if they take their degus to a specific vet practice and if so, where? As a rescue they should be in need of a vet that's somewhat reasonably priced for all the animals that come through. However I think this might just be the curse of London living pushing vet costs up.

That's a good idea newtogoos, I will do that. I asked people who I know (who have small animals and exotics) where they take their pets and they all said Beaumont so even though it's bloody extortionate, I feel comfortable with him going there.. But I'm still waiting back from a place in Hamstead. I'm a night owl deguconvert 😄 did you see my new profile pic 🎄

I wonder if some of his keenness over food is because feeding time was when he got attention?
Glad he's OK. FYI, that quote is double what I paid for Scaredygoo, who had exactly the same treatment.

For what they're charging at that vets I'd expect an invite to their Christmas party - together with a free meal.

Been saying for years I wanted one of mine doing joinery, the other a vet - then I'm sorted! My eldest always said he was going to be a rock star & buy me some land for my sanctuary (so I can get pygmy goats & sheep) - the reality turns out to be that my oldest works with the elderly & says(direct quote) "I thought it'd come in handy now you're 40 Mum"!!! What he doesn't know is he's being shipped off to look after MY Mum when he's qualified. Ha! serves him right. Maybe we should just all hang round outside the vet school on a Friday night, see what kind of hubby we can bag!!

Just avoid agricultural vets. Not sure the hand up a cow's backside does much for me

My eldest always said he was going to be a rock star & buy me some land for my sanctuary (so I can get pygmy goats & sheep) So it's not just me who dreams of owning pygmy goats one day? :') Sadly it's an unlikely prospect. I work in a research institute directly across from a vet school and we've had some vet students working in our lab... Apparently guys are few and far between and those who are there aren't going to find us their type Vets don't actually make that much compared to doctors. Also have one of the highest rates of suicide in the job. I'd recommend medicine over vet med any day!
