Male degus make excellent fathers and are also very caring. It's awesome to see the males tend to the pups. Problem is, females being most fertile after birth means the father is also eager to tend to mom as well. So back to back pregnancies will ensue if daddy goo is present.

Both degus have been confirmed by vet as female, even though they were both sold as males. I don't why they didn't check this when they went for the health checks, I suppose like me they assumed that the colleague at Pets at Home knew how to tell the difference. They were separated on Monday when she had them as I was fully aware that they are more fertile. After several members on here confirmed that my other degu was also female she was put back in. If you had bothered to read the full thread you would have realised this.

Jolil I think deguconvert was only highlighting that males make good parents, and that it's a shame they can't stay in. Your comment was unnecessarily harsh.

I read back through my thread and personally saw no reference for that post hence my comment. If I have read it wrong I am very sorry.

It's looks to me like Deguconvert's comment was in response to Garfunkel's comment directly before it about females being so caring and attentive, she just wanted to let people know the males are equally caring. I can see the connection isn't all that clear because her comment arrived on the next page.
Let's move on now.

Jolil just always bare in mind everyone on here, as in 99.99% of people are lovely and are never being snidey or arsey or sarcastic. This is the nicest forum I've ever been on, everyone here is lovely and they're just trying to help and educate and be super friendly ☺️👍🏻 no harm done!

I'm truly sorry, Jolil. I was indeed replying to Garfunkel, and not remarking at you. I was fully aware that both your degus are female, and I have wondered in this thread if you might have a second litter coming. I'll try to make a better effort to be clearer about whom my comments are directed toward.
However, if you don't mind me asking, have you been under fire as a result of the degu pregnancy and resulting pups you inherited?

No I haven't I must thank each member on this thread for their help and advice due to the unexpected arrivals. I was tired and stressed due to the situation that I found myself in, also it is an extremely busy time at work at the moment and their arrival have not helped my anxiety. I am really sorry that I took your explanation about males being good parents personally.

@ Jolil
Don't let it linger, love. I completely understand, and I'm totally good with it all. You are doing really well, handling the surprise, and continuing forward! We're all really glad to help, AND we love the video of the munchkins zipping around the cage. LOVE that little bit where a pup is on top of the straw tunnel thing having a face to face with . . . Mom? SO, so sweet!

They just want to be everywhere, don't they, following mum, hiding from mum, being a degu parent looks like really hard work!

wow they are huge compared to the last video, they look full grown except the size. Always marvel at how developed most animals are as babies. Human babies take a whole year to get to this stage, but a giraffe pops out & immediately gets to it's feet. I presume degu babies suckle milk? When do they eat solid food? How quickly after birth are they running around? I got my current boys at 3 months, were small but 100% developed. That's the youngest I've ever known degus so forgive my ignorance.

They suckle milk, I noticed that they nimbled on solid food before a week old now they are fully tucking into the food. They were walking around not long after birth.
