Yay BB!
Excellent news!
Not surprised by the syringe. The problem only really arises if you get a different brand, as they are not honey flavoured.

Fantastic news. I really do think they know we are making them better, they have the intelligence don't they. If Millie and Nina are unwell they come and sit on our knee and try and crawl into whatever we are wearing whereas normally they run around like lunatics. They know they get babied and mam and dad make it all better lol, yep we are slaves to our furry babies

Just seen him eat a tiny sprig of mint, 2 sunflower seeds, 1 oat & he went to the bowl of recovery food twice, seemed to be there eating for a good 2 minutes. That's the most he's eaten since saturday. Have put some millet in, along with all the other food & stuff. Just going to have to keep tempting him. Definitely getting some more recovery food off the vets this afternoon, he seems to prefer that to his normal food (he hasn't touched it) He's also eating a bit of bark from his toys - have I read on here that sick goos eat bark?

So glad he is showing some interest in you and in food! May it continue and increase! I think it is great that he likes the moor liquid as well, I'm sure there are things in there that he needs. WOO HOO!!

He's really tucked into the recovery food in his bowl, so happy to know he's got something in his belly at last

woke up to an empty bowl of recovery food He doesn't seem interested in normal food or forage though. His behaviour/demeanour is back to normal though Has been on the wheel a little. He has stripped his steps of bark & eaten it, & destroyed the willow tunnel. He hasn't been destructive until now, can any one think why he's started now? Is he eating the bark for a reason do you think?

Hope so. I'm going to order some bark (the burgess herbage stuff) as he seems keen. Bet he's lost interest by the time it gets here! Do you know how much recovery food he should consume per day if he's not eating other food bouncy?

I'm afraid I don't, as I've never had to use it. However his weight is a good guide. It sounds like he's latched onto the food because he hasn't had an adverse reaction to it. It's a little worrying that he's not going back to his normal feed, though.

I know what you mean. I'm happy he's eating, & I know recovery food is balanced & good for him, but can't help think he's still not out of the woods. He needs to eat properly. I've got lots of stuff to try, but I'm wondering if I should take the recovery food out of his cage for a few hours, he might try other foods if it's not available. But I'm scared he just won't eat at all. His poops have started looking better too, are normal shape & consistency, just a little small & not many. Shows his guts are working though.

So delighted by the good news! I'm rooting for you and BB. Probably a good idea to take the recovery food out for a bit and see what happens - you know how it is with goos and food, sometimes they just latch at something they really like, and ignore everything else. It could simply be another manifestation of this typical degu behaviour.

I actually think you should keep giving him the food. If the movement and health of his guts is the trouble, you do want food moving through them. I think that it is possible that the moor liquid is what is helping things to change, and the recovery food might be the only thing (along with the fibre of the bark and whatever else he is obtaining from it. Willow has pain relieving properties I think.) are clearly helping him. He is choosing what his body can handle at this time. I would keep giving him the moor liquid and the recovery food, and I would make small amounts of seeds, forage, and other things available to him. Don't give him lots . . . I'm thinking along the lines of a teaspoon, so that he can have some, or ignore it as he feels the need. I think if you take these things away at this point you risk putting him back, and I know you don't want that. I would give him at the very least the rest of this week with these things. It is my feeling that what you have been seeing is actually a long standing, pre-existing issue that may have resulted from his previous owners or "his time in the park" or both. You have found things that are making a wonderful difference to him and are beginning his healing, and healing takes time. Don't take these away, but watch and I believe you will see his fur change, his teeth, his eyes, everything!

oh god he's worse again. Looks miserable, hiding under wheel. Has eaten a bowl of recovery food, & has pooped (last night) but seems just as ill looking this morning as saturday. One of his eyes is shut, no discharge or anything. Have given him his metacam, will see if he seems any better. poor BB, feel really bad for him

I'm sure you'll be keeping a close eye on him.
Has he pooped at all this morning? Has the metacam had any effect today? I know you put the baytril into his water. Can you tell if he's been drinking any?
Did he eat anything yesterday in addition to what he's been eating since the weekend?

Awwwm no!! I'm so sorry! Did the vet inject him with things and then send him home with you . . . is that right? If so, perhaps he isn't getting the baytril and metacam into his system as much as he needs to have. Have you been giving him the moor liquid?

bouncy - He has eaten a pea flake, a tiny amount of seeds & tiny amount of fresh herbs today. Had a bit of dried dill & 2 sunflower seeds too. Have seen poops, but they're a little smaller than last night. He's only been drinking a little water, I think because the recovery food is quite watery. Have made it up a little thicker to encourage him to drink more water. He looked better an hour after the metacam, so I assume he is in pain. He's still not interested in his proper food. I couldn't tempt him with the moor liquid, so put some in the recovery food. deguconvert - Yeah the vet gave his injections of antibiotics, painkillers & that gut moving stuff (metacloppy-thingy!) to last the first 24 hours. I've been giving him baytril & metacam daily since. He lost interest after 2 days with the moor liquid, so I put some in the recovery food today, but he hasn't eaten much of it today. His left eye is totally squinty - a new symptom. Usually see that with dental problems. It reminds me of what happened to my chin, Dave. He was treated for an eye infection (it was very watery & squinty) it seemed to go away, but came back a few months later. He also stopped eating. Vet couldn't find anything wrong, checked teeth repeatedly. Ended up at a specialist who xrayed & said there was an abscess in the root of the very back tooth, wouldn't have been picked up without xray. It was impossible to treat with surgery as it would involve breaking the jaw to get to it, & he wouldn't recover. He was in agony, wouldn't eat & it had been nearly 2 weeks since he had, so I had to have him pts. Broke my heart. Am beginning to wonder if BB might have similar problems. Why would his eye look like that if it is gut problems? So worried about him
