You've done an incredible job to bring him back from the brink, I really didn't rate your chances, but he is looking so much better, super kudos to you I hope he adjusts well to life on 3 legs once he gets the freedom of a bigger cage, I'd love it if you could let us know how he gets on

YAY, yay, yay!! So glad he is doing so much better! I, too, am trying to imagine a degu in a cone . . . considering their ear size . . . LOL! I see I missed the other posts on the next page, ROFL! That cone seems to resemble a plate more than the cone we see on cats and dogs. Is it more flat than concave?

I can see the poppers to holdnit closed, but it looks like it was much larger, but has been trimmed down, then the edge covered with sellotape to soften them?

It was one sized for a small bird. we added tape to make the cone itself longer. That way it wouldn't get hung up on stuff too easy and he couldn't reach his nub.

He is in recovery in that picture, I'm sure, but it doesn't take too much imagination to see an expression on his that says, "Oh, the indignity!!"
I could see the poppers as well, but I found the edges difficult to make out. Now I understand that it is the inside edge of the tape on the shame cone that looking like it is just floating in space that has me confused. I look at it now and it still strikes me as an optical illusion of sorts, even though my brain now knows what is going on.

Kuppa update! Kuppa is doing wonderful his leg is almost healed! He is maintaining his weight right around 174-176 grams. He is now allowed in the dust bath, which he is very grateful for. He recently got a food upgrade. I am now ordering beaphar Xtra vital degu food from Ireland, as it is not available in the us. He also loves Dried dandelions and rose petals! We have had no further issues with his teeth. He is still in the hospital tank. But hopefully he will soon be able to move into his small cage for observation and then into his big cage. (The pic is right after I put his food in. he was getting ready to nom out!)
