Hey all!
My goos are starting to settle in, it's been a couple of days since they got here. They seem to be rather shy, which I'm going to work on, but one main thing that has stuck out to me is that one of the sisters (I have three of them) has a patch on her upper back that is pretty much bald.
Their previous owner said that she is just over groomed, but I'm just interested in what the cause of that might be?
I also think she's a little more bald today than before.
I assume the stress of moving doesn't help it all. Any advice on how to monitor/help this?

My one boy did that every time he shed (twice a year) for 2 years o believe. As long as the skin looks normal I would just watch it.

Okay cheers. In terms of the skin, what am I looking for? At the moment it doesn't look red or anything. What's normal?

Basically it is a pale pinkish colour, though some seem almost a little gray in colour. No redness to it, smooth in appearance with no flakiness or cracking.

It's not too unusual, I have an occasional overgroomer here too. The only thing you can do is be aware that sometimes there can be an element of boredom or stress to it, so you can make sure you are providing a nice big home with plenty to occupy them and think about sources of stress.

Thanks for the replies guys! Just checked and her completely bald patches show what looks like healthy pale pink skin I think the cause is due to stress, as their last environment didn't allow them any time out of the cage, and the cage had inadequate floor space and a wonky steel wheel! It's my mission now to cheer these little ones up! Thanks again all.

Hey all, just had a look again and noticed some very small white specks around her skin and fur. Is this just debris from around the cage, or could it be something else? I only ask as I can't see it on the surface fur of the other two girls. I'd have thought if it were something like mites or an infection, it would have affected the others too?

I am fairly sure that mites or a fungus or infection would have affected the others so I assume it is debris from the cage. If the skin looks sore or inflamed then I would take a trip to the vet but as long as it looks clean and healthy I wouldn't worry too much.

With Mites or infection you will also see lots of scratching and itching. If there is none of that, she is OK, but keep an eye on her to be sure that it doesn't become something that is growing worse. Hope that makes sense!

Over the course of the last month I’ve watched her fur growth, and I’m pleased to say it’s grown almost completely back! I feel like this means they are happier and less stressed? Anyways, all good news

Sounds like it was just stress then! Long may they be fluffy!

Great Do they seem more relaxed in their environment and/or with each other?
