This evening the younger boys were squabbling over a treat (as normal) but they got too close to the open door and fell right out. I managed to catch Brian, so he only fell a couple of inches into my hand, but I missed Stu. He fell about 4.5 ft to laminate floor. When he hit the deck he just lay there with all 4 legs sticking out for a few seconds and hubby managed to scoop him up and pop him back in. He went straight to the nest box and snuggled in. We managed to coax him out with some flaked peas and all four limbs seem fine, he is moving ok if a little reluctantly. We are going to leave him to sleep tonight and see how he feels in the morning. Is there anything we should be looking for re internal injuries?

Oh goodness!!! Yikes that is scary! I can't think of anything to look for . . . only because I have not had this happen, and I really don't know what signs there would be. I would have him looked at if he seems in any way lethargic, or continues to seem reluctant to move.

How is he doing? They usually get over the shock within 24hrs, so if he is OK he should be acting OK by now.

Thankfully Stu seems fine today. He is avoiding the top level of the cage at the moment but thats probably because thats where he fell from. Will try and see if we can entice him up with a few treats tomorrow but today he has been up and about and even using the wheel, so it looks like he just got shook up.

I'm glad Stu is fine, Sillygoo did the same thing, and also came out fine. I think the legs splaying helps them to spread the force, and they probably end up taking a lot of it through their body rather than the legs.

While we were having dinner this evening, hubby pointed out that, if not for the fact we were worried about him being hurt, he actually looked quite funny. He said he looked like Wile E Coyote after he'd been run over by his own boulder; a sort of brown splat with a leg sticking out of each corner.

Shame he didn't hang in mid air for a few seconds before he fell like Wile E Coyote so you could have had a chance to catch him!

I've got to admit, I had the momentary gasp and look of horror on my face when it happened, but there was an immediately lol when I saw his comic landing. When I scooped him up, he wasn't scared, he looked like a toddler trying to work out what had happened.
