Hey all
Our boys have been steadily putting on weight and we are a little concerned.
We have had them 11 days today they are being fed 20g nuggets and hay ad-lib they have had dandelion leaves twice in that time and 1 flower each as well as about 2 teaspoons of mixed herbs (cumin and fennel, sesame, dried basil, parsley, oregano, sage) which were put into toys (a week later still bits of them left that they snack on they have also had each 6 sunflower seeds and 4 pumpkin seeds.
We made home made toys from loo roll hay and shredded kitchen roll which they have loved and where the herbs are still found and snacked on no more have been added so those original 2 spoonfuls still going strong 11 days later.
They have a wheel each and come out for about 3 to 4 hours a day.
When we got them they weighed
226 (tom)
242 (nibbles)
After a week they weighed
236 (tom)
252 (nibbles)
Today (last weighed thursday)
242 (tom)
256 (nibbles)
I am worried they they are putting too much weight on too quickly could it have been that they were under weight and now gaining
They have also had oven dried parsnip pieces of about 1/2cm cubed and had 10 between them over this period to train them into their carrycase (just encase we need to take them to the vets in future)
Have we over fed anything? we have ordered a batch of SAB food but not sure how long that will take to arrive and wanted to use up the nuggets first.
They were only ever kept on nuggets before we got them with brightly coloured brought degu treats no hay no nothing else just degu nuggets (a handful a day how ever much that would be lol) and these treats.
Should we cut out everything except for hay and nuggets? Do they normally put weight on this time of year? Should I take them to the vets?
Thanks x
