Just thought I would put something positive out there....... My three fluffy lumps have two wheels, which is enough to stop fighting because two can fit in one. They had plastic Roly wheels, which were fine. They rattled a bit, but my place is too quiet without critters either chewing or rattling around in their wheels. After a couple of months, the goos managed to break the shaft of one wheel, so I hunted around. I know John Hopewell is someone recommended, but £100~ was a bit too much. Anyway, there's an EBay storefront called TicTac Wheels. They are bearing-based, and run very smoothly (I can only hear the pitter patter of their paws), and have four fixing points. There is also a choice of depth. I got two 12" wheels, 5" deep, for £30 each! Oh, and the googoos love them

So bouncy - is it a cake tin? Just curious.

Looks like a cake tin like mine to me, well the 14" one. (In which case I would spray it with the child safe Plastikote enamel as soon as you get it.) I wonder what bearing they are using?

moletteuk, why do you need to spray it with enamel, to prevent the urine from ruining the finish? I just asked on fb whether they sell to the states. There wasn't anything about that on either fb or their web site.

If the cake tin is the same as mine it's just a thin coating of tin on top of steel, and as soon as the tin starts to wear a little you get mild areas of corrosion appearing.

Yes, the seller replied to me and they don't sell to US due to the postage.

Little update - they run all the time. They haven't urinated in them (they never did with their plastic ones either). The only thing I have noticed is that I need to tighten the fixings once a week!

I wonder if you could use some different washers that would hold firmer? Locking washers exist, or maybe an extra rubber or nylon washer.

I bought two 13" wheels from tictac myself a few weeks ago and although they took a bit of wrestling to get into the cage they are excellent and well worth the money. I was buying wooden wheels at £15 each every few weeks due to them being bitten to pieces.
Tic tac wheels are extremely quiet but do need the room available to be fixed onto the cage side

These wheels are great! I think that they waiver the postage cost if you are a member of anything degu FB page.

I know this is an old thread, but I've just come across TicTac wheels website. (tictacwheels.co.uk) Their prices look ok (especially compared with John Hopewell's which is currently £95!) but are they worth it? I had a Hopewell one previously & it was pretty thick metal, not thin like a cake tin. My little guy has a wooden wheel at the moment, but when he destroys that, I might replace it with one of these ones (I like the colourful ones) What size would you guys recommend? Is it the bigger the better? I only have one little guy at the moment, but am looking to adopt another one or two sometime soon. I like the 16" ones (£45) do you think that will be too big?

Just a side note.
If you check out YouTube there's a video of how to make your own using a cake tin, a pushchair wheel and the usual nuts and bolts.
May be handy for the DIY talented.

I'd love an update on how the tictac wheels are faring. My homemade one is fine structurally but the metal surface is a bit scruffy deguworld.proboards.com/thread/18484/molettes-35cm-home-metal-wheelBigger is always better, mine is 14" and it's certainly more appropriate than 12" The only reason not to go to 16" is any limitation from fitting it in your cage.
