That looks amazing I've been having to use a storage box to carry my degus in... if you have to travel far, I might suggest attaching a small water bottle on the side?

That's for the purpose of traveling? It has great workmanship, and I love the design. Well done! I'm sure you know it isn't large enough for long term living.

Oh, yes, definitely not for long term!! I have 4 1.5 by 2 foot cages that I'm putting together to make a big enclosure. The degu I've had for over 2 years lives in one of them. She's gonna have a nice upgrade! This one will just be a travel cage I'll snap another pic of it tomorrow; I've added a couple of bits to it

That looks really good, nice and secure.
Is that a baking tray in the bottom? Are they special mesh joining clips for the connections?
If you had a poorly degu or very frightened one, you could cover it with a towel or line it with cardboard to make it more enclosed.
Did you bring a friend home for Cookie?

Yes, it is an old baking tray! All clean and disinfected with special cage spray. I'll grab a pic of it now, as I've added a hidy hole, cardboard around the edge and sawdust and hay to it. Also got to attach the water bottle. Going to pick the new girl up today The cage will be really useful for carrying them to where they can play out and cleaning cages as well. They'll probably massacre the cardboard soon, but at least it'll keep them occupied and it's not exactly in short supply!!

You should make a couple more of these and sell them, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would buy them considering shops only sell plastic small-animal carry cases.

I think the most similar commercial one is the John Hopewell travel cage.

That is really nice, we just use a rubbish plastic one for the vets (but usually in the car I have the degu in my top where she can hide). When we moved we used two 80L plastic boxes for the two pairs (and we use them while we clean the cages) because they're big enough to have a wheel in (we'd only had them about 6 months and they had no idea what was happening and the rescue girls were especially worried).
