Hi, this is my first post, so hello! I have a few questions regarding buying a new cage. I'm thinking of buying this one: www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/products/metal-aventura-huge-metal-rat-ferret-chinchilla-cage.htmlFirstly, would it be suitable for degus? Secondly, how realistic do people think it would be to disassemble it and reassemble it if I'm staying over at someone's house for more than a couple of days? Finally, does anyone have any experience of buying from this company? The cage I currently own is the standard one from the Pets at Home chain, but I've got three degus and I know it's not big enough. I knew this when I got them a month ago but as I didn't have any prior experience of degus I thought it best to get the one size cage that this shop was selling for degus, while I learnt more. Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum It's difficult to get the cage right first time because degus and people are all different so you don't know what might suit you until you get them, and the PAH might come in handy as a spare at some point. I don't have a metal cage but the Aventura is very popular with our members and is as good as anything else of that length, and usually provides a very good home. To get a better cage you would be looking at something longer and they get more expensive quite rapidly, something like the Royal Suite XL would be appropriate but I think it needs the shelves replacing as they are plastic. For 3 degus it would be best to extend the half shelves into full shelves on the Aventura to make the most of the volume of space. We have a few good examples of the Aventura style around the forum deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15977/paradise-critter-nation deguworld.proboards.com/thread/6918/show-cage?page=12 scroll down to Mel's cage I think Littlepetwarehouse sometimes have 10% off vouchers. From memory, I think the Aventura can be a real pain to put together, so I don't think you would want to repeat the procedure for going away. Perhaps you could use the PAH cage as a temporary home, although this would depend on the stability of the group and their attitude on whether they would riot at being stuck in the smaller cage.

Hi, thanks for the replies, and apologies it's taken me so long to reply.
It took me a long time to save up the money and I eventually got the Aventura cage several weeks ago. It took me three hours to assemble, albeit with some breaks to talk to the animals in their old cage. The instructions were virtually useless, it was hard to figure out what section went where and I kept finding that I'd screwed the wrong section in somewhere and having to unscrew and re-screw several sections. It was also more difficult because I was doing it by myself and I was sometimes having to balance parts while I screwed them in. But having said all that, I think I could assemble it much quicker in the future, especially with someone's help, so if I'm staying over at someone's house for six or seven days then I will disassemble and reassemble it.
On another note, the delivery of the cage was very quick. I ordered it from the Little Pet Warehouse on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning, they shipped it on the Thursday and it arrived on the Friday! And it is a huge cage, as advertised.
