Hiya, one of my degus has a red raw bloody looking patch on her tail. She had it a while ago and it started to heal but I've just seen it again now and it's red raw and wet looking. Does anyone know any way to help it heal quicker/stop her from aggravating it further? If it's not looking better in a day or two I'll get her to a vet, just wondering if anyone has any tips. Thank you

I think the best thing for now id to keep it clean and try and stop him/her from chewing on it. The fact that it started to go and then got worse again is slightly worrying and might be worth discussing wit a vet. I have heard of people using plain cornflour to help stop wounds bleeding but I have never had to try it.

I think I would get her to the vet today or tomorrow and let them have a look at it if it is an ongoing problem, it's probably worth getting her on antibiotics right away. It's an awkward place to heal as they bear weight through the base of the tail when they sit or balance and it's so near the floor for picking up dirt. You can remove the sand and maybe remove the substrate and either put a bit of kitchen roll in and replace it often or just wipe down a couple of times a day instead of substrate.

Been making sure the bottom of their cage is nice and clean, and given her a course of antibiotics - seems to be clearing up nicely. Thanks for the advice.
