The top one is really narrow. Although they do enjoy climbing, a wide cage is more important for degus than height. I previously owned a similar cage and it is surprising how different they act in a wider cage. Quite a few users on here have the cage below if you can stretch that bit farther with the finances. I know it is not always the case, but the Aventura is all metal so there is no risk of chewing, and it is easy to extend the levels if you want to gain more floor area. www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/metal-aventura-huge-metal-ferret-chinchilla-cage-p-6680.htmlNot many stock cages come near the 1000mm width we recommend for degu cages. Another option is the Liberta Tower, but you will probably have to replace the trays because they soon chew through the plastic ones. Other than my DIY cage which I now have, if I was starting again I would have had the Aventura.

I've never seen that one before. I think the height of the cage part looks to only be about 60cm or so. The floor area 104x59cm =6000 sq cm, so if you extended the two little shelves that are level into a full area shelf (with some wood) then it would just about do, but the second full shelf would absolutely be necessary (2 degus need 12,000sq cm). I'm really not sure about the door on the top and the tiny door at the front. I think the Aventura is worth the extra money and doesn't absolutely need any modifications for two degus.

Will mull it over, its nice to know that it's suitable even if its not the hugest cage, i'm also liking the face it would give them a decent floor to run on. Thanks for all the suggestions and help <script id="UZ_script_codeUser" type="text/javascript">var _uz_codeuser='C517S16_830';</script><script id="UZ_script_JS" type="text/javascript"></script><script id="UZ_script_codeUser" type="text/javascript">var _uz_codeuser='C517S16_830';</script><script id="UZ_script_JS" type="text/javascript"></script>

BTW unless they are in dire need of an immediate upgrade, there is some advantage to waiting a week or two so you get to know them a bit, it will help you appreciate how much space they can use, might help you to work out what features you want, things like door position and size and free space to play with and put extra wheels, more hammocks, plenty of logs and sticks etc.

I'm looking at John Hopewell cages, not sure if any of them would be suitable, struggling a bit with the maths <script id="UZ_script_codeUser" type="text/javascript">var _uz_codeuser='C517S16_830';</script><script id="UZ_script_JS" type="text/javascript"></script>

I went through three types of cage and finally went for the DIY. My first was woefully undersized as I found out after fighting escalated and I ended up here. The Liberta Tower worked for me for a while, but I was running out of floor space to keep the cages so opted for the DIY project. I know it might be a bit more than you were expecting/intending to pay but I would push that bit extra for the aventura if you can. As Molette says there is no mad rush, wait for them to settle.

I've just looked at the John Hopwell cages for you, the sizing seems weird to me, they don't have enough shelves for the volume. 36x18x48" would be just about OK for two degus if it had the base and two full shelves, but they only have one extra shelf or two smaller shelves. Likewise 36x24x48" would be OK for 3 degus if it had 3 full shelves. I dare say he would do a custom one with more shelves, but you are looking at £250 for the smaller one and well over £300 for the bigger one with the extra money for the extra shelf. The nearest thing that would be OK as it is is this one www.johnhopewell.co.uk/default.asp?template=productdetail.page.xml&productId=337 but there is no shelf edging and no full doors, it's not ideal and it's over £300! Just ask if you need help doing the sums for a particular cage. It's actually just the length multiplied by the depth (which gives the floor area) multiplied by the number of full levels.

Yeah I had a look but they all seemed to be lacking in floor space and for the price I would of still been better off with the smaller of the two cages I'm debating. I'm having another good look round, I did do some research before I got them but the cage calculator I used seems to be outdated on the site where I did my reading up. I'm sure I can find something that is a good work for space, money and the goo's happiness, which is the most important factor in the long run <script id="UZ_script_codeUser" type="text/javascript">var _uz_codeuser='C517S16_830';</script><script id="UZ_script_JS" type="text/javascript"></script>

Likewise if floor space is not an issue, combining cages can also be great, I used to have two linked, at least then if you get any squabbles in the future it is easier to separate them if required.

Off topic: script id="UZ_script_codeUser" type="text/javascript">var _uz_codeuser='C517S16_830';</script><script id="UZ_script_JS" type="text/javascript"></script> ? I mean, it appears in every post of you, does not show anything but looks quite irritating.

Wow!! Guess I've already gotten used to it, LOL! I didn't even realize it is there until you pointed it out, Maravilla. I wonder what it is and why it is there.

Did you see in Bargain Thread I posted there is a 10% off code for Littlepetwarehouse TY40 so Aventura would be £135?

That looks really nice, but I don't think it will be degu chomp proof. If you look at the inside pics, it is made of quite a thin batten framework with planks across the back and I think plastic trays, and degus will be able to get their teeth around all of this.

All I do with the ramps is get a piece of softwood, and cable tie it to the back of the ramps. It stops them falling through the rungs, but also leaves the bars as grips for them when going up the slope
They are going to love that cage...and I think you have definitely made a wise choice
