I have two 9month old degus, one boy, one girl... Now Ive only had them for like 2 days... I already love them to pieces I'm really worried cause my girl tequila is peeing orange... And whiskey my boy isn't but it spotted orange.. I'm not sure if it's cause by the cardboard under them. (Cleaning there cage so they have there play stuff in a box... But I'm just worried. Should I worry? I'm a new owner! Im only 17, and I don't know everything yet.

Was the pee you noticed in the box or in the cage? It may just be how the cardboard soaked up the pee, making it look orange.

It could be something in their diet. Apple sticks (mainly the bark) can cause pee to turn orange/red when eaten. There are other foods that can also have this affect, can't think of any off the top of my head just now, I'm on my phone so searching isn't easy.
I'm sure it's nothing too drastic and someone else will be along soon to add to our thoughts.
P.S. Welcome to the forum to you and your goos :-)

I agree with Kins - apple bark is certainly something that can produce orange wee, but not the only thing. If they're both doing similar (it sounds similar enough) then it's probably something in their diet.
(You'd know if it were fresh blood, it obviously comes out scarlet and dries darker than orange - then a vet trip might be called for).
Never be afraid to ask questions, no-one knows it all when they start, whether they're 17 or 65. We've all been there, and we all love our degus.
Welcome to the forum!!
Er...one girl and one boy? You planning more degus then? ;-)

Welcome to the forum!! I had the same question, a male and a female? These little fur loves procreate faster than bunnies . . . well . . .they give them a run for their money at least. Anyway, you can find yourself quite flooded with degus in a fairly short time.

Can you tell us a bit more about your plans for the babies? You will need another large cage to separate boys from girls and mum from dad. The mother is also fertile immediately after she has given birth, so she needs separating from the dad just before giving birth. It is very easy for pregnancies to get out of control and end up with 20 or 30 degus!!! You also need to choose and register with a vet if you have a pregnant degu as she may need emergency care. Please check out our cage size guide because two adequately sized cages is going to take up quite a lot of room and have quite a bit of cost for a 17yr old. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/9396/forums-cage-size-recommendations

At some point you will have to serapate mom and dad - unless you want to increase your degu number by 2-8 every 3 months. your only other choice would be to get the male neutered. Rodents will consistently get pregnant and have babies - it won't be a one time thing and everything goes back to normal. You do have the option of waiting for the one litter and then keeping either girls or boys and rehome of the original oarents with some of their babies Hope you are enjoying degu ownership - they are hilarious little monkeys and a lot of fun to have

Don't forget that the female pups are viable by age 6 weeks, so Daddy degu can impregnate them as well. Pregnancy at that age is really hard on the degu, and not only can all the pups inside die, but so can the pregnant degu herself. It is very distressing.
