I am so very sorry, Tortelicous! I know your pain. We lost our standard poodle last week from a very sudden and fatal problem, and it is very painful. You were a super hero on her behalf, working so hard to find out what was causing such horrible itchiness and distress. I am glad that the second vet could affirm all that the original vet did, that must have been a tiny bit comforting. I'm glad you have her ashes and a bit of her fur. Those are nice memorials to have. Sending you hugs!

Thankyou Deguconvert... It was reassuring to know all treatments were explored and hadn't worked because there was something else going on. I miss her so much and my heart breaks every time i go to see Maggie and she is sat there alone, she's not as outgoing and confident as Babs was and hides from me when i get near to her. Just want to cuddle her. i feel i should find a companion for her but don't know when or what age/sex to go for. So sorry to hear of your loss, our lives feel so empty when we lose our pets but treasure your happy memories and remember your doggy is still around you. X

Thankyou Chloe, because we plan to move in the spring of next year, I didn't want to leave Babs behind by burying her. I have left the keyring with the casket in Maggie's room because i'd hate to lose it or it get scratched x

I would have a look around the local rescues and see what degus are available, you have plenty of options, one or pair of babies or adult females or single neutered male would also be an option. The main thing is to triple check sexes and know what you are getting so there aren't any accidents. There is further advice in the introductions area and of course you can ask any questions. Since Maggie is quite shy, it is probably worth putting the wheels in motion as soon as you feel up to it as there will be a period of having cages side by side without them meeting, so the time alone all adds up.
