Hello, I'm Erica and I have had my degus for around 3 weeks, and I'm spoiling them as much as I can. I have two boys named Milo and Ralph, and I just adore them! Ralph is my chubbier and shy boy (agouti), and Milo is my curious and playful boy (champagne agouti). I've read up on them so much since I have gotten them. So far, they are on 50% commercial guinea pig diet and 50% organic mix. I will keep adding to the mix, but they have quinoa, millet, oats, and flax seeds in the mix. Are all of those okay so far? Just wanted to introduce myself and my boys! I'm loving getting to know their funny little personalities. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know what I could do better! Single critter nation for now. Might order another shelf for more floor space. And hopefully sometime soon I will buy an add-on! Ralph they love perching on this little ledge! Milo and Ralph in the dust bath. QUESTION: What is the best dust to use for their bath? Right now I am using All Living Things Blue Cloud Dust.

Doing awesome so far and welcome. At so,e point you might want to start to switch those cereal grain seeds over to higher calcium seeds - celery, seasame, flax, cilantro, etc. there is a chart somewhere with a full list of the best seeds out there for them. Also make sure that your pellets and other snacks don't have any sugar in them - look for molasses, honey, glucose, dextrose or corn syrup. Degu lack the enzyme to metabolize sugar. Good luck and enjoy the little monkeys - they will keep you entertained for hours!

Hi Erica and welcome, congrats on your new degus. It's really fun getting to know them in those first few weeks The double critter nation cage is good, if you only have a single, I think you can buy an extension add on. The main thing about the diet is to feed as much forage and mixed plant matter as possible, grasses, hedgerow and weed type plants, tree leaves, flowers etc, there are safe lists in the diet section. As Karma says, your 50% organic mix needs to be more oil seed based with a focus on high calcium seeds, see this thread deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15602/vegetable-seed-nut-nutrition-chartsFor helpful hints on selecting commercial food, see this deguworld.proboards.com/thread/17365/commercial-food-chart
