Hi
We're looking to get a couple of degus. I've read the minimum size recommendations on these boards but am struggling to find anything available that meets these specifications. We want these little guys to have the best life possible so cost isn't really the main issue (within reason obviously!)
I am pretty useless at DIY so anything than other minor modifications would be beyond me unfortunately!
I nearly made the mistake of buying the one sold by pets@home but fortunately checked the reviews on my phone and found that it is pretty useless and woefully small.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

People here have recommended to me the critter nation cage and I really like it. So I would recommend it to you too. It's only available online (only through amazon) I believe. It has plenty of space for 2-3 goos also.

We normally recommend the Xtrail/ Aventura/ Explorer/ Double Critter Nation, which are all very similar, some have double doors, some have plastic, some metal trays. The Aventura has metal trays, so needs the least work, but I would double check this and it's not always available. They can be improved by extending the half shelves into full shelves. Vivarium type cages are also available, a new member recently was considering this cage www.reptiles.swelluk.com/reptile-supplies/vivariums-416/vivariums-572/vivexotic-viva-arboreal-vivarium-large-deep-beech-445474.html I've never seen it in detail, so you might need to check there aren't any chewable edges and that the ventilation is sufficient. Have a look through the 'show us your cage' thread for more ideas

I also recommend the Midwest Critter Nation Cage – Double Unit. Are you in North America? – because PetSmart has one of their own that looks like a replica of the double unit Critter Nation cage that can be picked up in-store. However, you can get decent deals on this cage on Amazon. If you are in Canada, you can get handy metal trays to replace the plastic trays with (goos love to chew the plastic to bits) from Flowertown Chinchillas in Brampton Ontario. These trays also keep the litter in.
