Ouch!
Don't panic! It is done and you cannot change it.
Take the sand bath out of the cage for a couple of days and have a close look on the naked tail for some time. Normally, it should heal well as it is a normal thing for degus but sometimes there are infections which have to be treated. Mr Grey will be okay with a short tail and should not have any problems with it once it is closed and fine.
Just try to avoid similar things like this in the future. But I am sure you will double check the doors to avoid this happening again.
Hope he gets well soon!

Thank you it all happened so quick I put some seeds in and he swung around quick to protect them from al just as I was shutting the door! He's pretty lost most of the skin off the tail my poor husband had to pick it up.off the floor I couldn't do it I was sick!! Luckily deep cleaned there cages yesterday and took the sand.bath out! So theres no sand in the cage and it's clean! I feel so so so guilty he had the best fluffy tail too, what will.happen to.all the exposed cartalidge? Xx

One of our girls degloved her tail when she was small, just a small bit at the end, and she simply chewed the exposed end off. I assume mr grey will do the same with his exposed end.

Don't feel guilty, it was an accident, these things happen. I know that's easy to say, but it really is true!
He'll be absolutely fine, don't you stress! It's such a common thing with degus, so no worries!
Really hope you feel better soon, I would say I hope Mr Grey feels better, but I bet he's not even bothered!

Mr grey is home now minus the bloody tail he's got a neat little stump with a few stitches and some metacam. Before After Poor thing I feel so so mean the grand total of this accident was a whopping £200.00 pounds! When I put him.back in the cage al tiptoed up to him and gave him a little nuzzle it was so sweet

he will be fine Chloe but that vet bill sounds too much Gerald had exactly the same thing and it was just under £100 which nearly gave me a heart attack! I would probably keep them seperate until the stiches come out|!

I think you are the best person to judge about keeping them together or separate. I would only separate if Al chews the wound area. Get well soon Mr Grey x

OUCH . . . OH CHLOE!! I'm so sorry! I've been where you are, and I know so well how horrified you have felt. How are you and he doing now?
I wish I could help with the metacam, but I've no experience with it.

What I know and have checked are 0.5-1 drop (of the 0,5 mg/ml metacam) per day.
3 drops are said to be enough for 1kg animal, so a degu with approx. 250g should not get more than 1 drop per day.

I only added a small drip mixed in with some oats In the end inwas worried that the stated dose was too much

Einstein has been getting 0.1ml of the cat dosage and then 0.03ml of the dog dosage for metacam for the last 5 weeks and has done well on that.
