Hi all new to site and need some advice please on the new cage im building out of mdf board for my 2 male degus anybody know best way to seal the mdf as its unprimed and not sure best thing for pet safety etc thankyou for reading and any replies.

Possibly PVA diluted (Google it) as I believe it's non-toxic.
Not sure I'd recommend MDF but I guess you've already bought the bits?

thanks for the reply and pva glue is wot we found out so fab ty also any reason why not mdf ?

MDF is perfectly fine for the shell of the cage, it's just the levels where you might benefit from a more moisture resistant material such as melamine faced contiboard, laminated pine or plywood. If you were to use MDF then you could always buy adhesive vinyl tiles to offer some protection though.

Would it be possible to Fablon the levels, assuming there were no exposed edges to chew on? It's durable and wipes clean very easily and sticks fantastically to wood. I actually used it on an entire vivarium once as I could only get it in Tobacco colour and I wanted a Beech one lol Edit: Just for clarity, Fablon is adhesive vinyl that comes on a roll as opposed to being a tile Double Edit: Oops sorry, just noticed the date on this, my mistake!
