So the little bugger basically de gloved a toe .... Infected and part of bone sticking out. Found an awesome exotic vet just south of calgary in my neck of the woods . We are going to try and save the toe but no guarantee - might need to be amputated. Soooo we are on Baytril twice a day Metacam once a day Booster supplement once a day Plus betaine washes, cream and keeping the toe bandaged ...... And of course Einstein will not eat oats or peanut butter so I have to force the meds down the hatch.

My goodness, you have a lot to deal with.
Hope it goes as smoothly as can be. And hope you are successful in saving the toe. My thoughts are with you and Einstein.

Y'know, one or two of ours lost toes over the years and it did not seem to bother them one bit, they appeared to adapt without any problems ,apart from less ability to climb vertical wire mesh.
I do hope Einstein's toe heals - but if not, rest assured it is not likely to cause him many problems.

Good grief! Einstein likes to keep you on your toes, doesn't he?
Can you send me a PM with the name of the exotics vet? We are in south end of Calgary, so they would be close for us as well. Having someone to call on would be great!!

Ugh this is turning out to be a marathon .. Had the toe almost healed - Einstein chewed off his bandage and chewed it down ..... Rebandaged too tight and whole foot swelled and angry looking ..... Starting to heal again (toe looks amazing and foot better) ...... Chewed bandaged off and decided he didn't like the almost healed toe and amputated it himself ..... AGGGGGH. So now the whole foot is still red and not happy and minus a toe. I need this to heal so I can do some of my longer trips .... Boss is going to get angry soon

Yikes! Can't imagine how you're coping with all this. Kudos to you.
So hope for you that it heals up soon.

Oh dear Karma, it sounds like a traumatic situation for you. Hopefully after this one he'll decide that enough is enough and just leave the toe alone!

It got so bad we almost o had to amputate the whole leg eep! Took off the bandage and attempted to cone him (didn't work so well) so I have just been bathing and putting cream on and he is only chewing on the foot a bit. It's been going good until today ..... Got three bad bites trying to put cream on. Grrrrrrr they are not getting any treats and can eat their pellets only tonight the little brats! Love him to pieces but you have to heal or let me doctor the foot!

So . . . you amputated the leg? It sounds like you are still treating a foot?

Omg omg omg FINALLY the foot is 95% healed ..... The tiniest scab left on the toe that is almost gone and just need the toenails to grow out on the other toes (and stop getting caught and ripping off lol). That was a marathon holy cow. And I have one more bite wound that still needs to heal too lol - it went a bit weird and now has a hard lump underneath and is itchy even though the top is pretty much healed. Oh well the price to pay having cuties

I wonder if there could be a pocket of pus under that? Keep an close eye on it, so that you know if it begins to increase in size. It may need to be lanced.
