When we adopted our two girls Dora and lady the girl in p&h checked their ears and she said they were fine. Do and can the degus contract ear infections and what are they like? Can they be pusy ect and gooey? Or any specific colour? My partner seems to think she has seen dark goo in lady's ear. It's not like she is not allowing us to go near it or as if its hurting her. Any pics we can check or anyone know what it should look like compared to a normal ear canal? Thank you Craig

Ummm . . . no . . . not really. I think degu ear wax is rather dark in colour, but that is about all I can tell you. That is a very interesting question to have asked, though, and I hope that there are other members that can help us learn more about this.

Some of the darkness could come from the dust associated with hay/woodshavings etc as well. Mine all have a small amount and always have so it's normal for my rabble. What I'd be more concerned about was it they were weeping, had a strange odour, were dry/flaky or looked red or swollen down the canal.

None of her ears are weeping etc or either smelling , my partner said it was a dark colour so this is more than likely to be wax. We recently bought a new saw dust which is supposed to be for small animals that have respiratory problems (which ours don't). Thanks
