Glad to hear the vet thinks it is a sprain. I hope he steadily improves. I am very surprised and a bit concerned that the vet recommended Tylenol, which I believe is paracetamol. I have never come across this before, either a vet recommending a human medication or even paracetamol for degus in any form. At the very least it seems impossible that you would get an appropriate dose, and paracetamol is fatal in overdose (in a very painful way). Metacam is the standard painkiller and anti-inflammatory for degus and in the cat concentration the standard dose for a degu is one drop. I understand know that many modern paracetamol products now contain an enzyme which prevents a lot of the historical issues associated with overdosing, but the fact is not openly advertised for obvious reasons

I dont recommend anyone give there degus tylenol unless properly advised by there vet I was just stating what the vet told me im sorry if that was wrong to do. Just wanted to let everyone know wgat the vet said and get everyones thoughts on it. Hombre is almost healed up now so I dont plan on using the tylenol. And the vet also told me that I shiuld only use it if he was gettig worse

That's absolutely fine ryguy, you were completely right to tell us what the vet said, I'm sorry if I sounded blunt. I just wanted to make it clear to you and other readers that it seemed very unusual advice for a vet to make. I'm glad Hombre is doing well

The vet is specialized in birds and exotics so im guessing she know what she is saying but it seemed unusal that she would recommend that I am quite broke so she may have been trying to save me money and hombre hurt himself the same way again not as bad this time but I need to do something about the gate on his cage to avoid this again think I might wrap a hand towel around it and attach it somehow

Well it's good that you've spotted what might be causing the injury. Would it be possible to fix it with a piece of wood or something more permanent? If you want any ideas maybe you could post a pic or tell us a bit more.
