I just found something on another board, thanks DavX! Do you feed her peas (flakes) regularly? And did you do so before the first seizures? What David found was a thread about a degu with seizures which occurred after feeding pea flakes and which might be related to an illness called Lathyrism. It is just an idea as the degu owner on the other board also mentioned a loss of urine.

It could just be her gut is struggling to start working again properly. Any interruption to normal eating can affect the bacterial balance in the gut, and it can be difficult to get normal flow of food through the gut going steadily after a break in normal eating patterns.
Try to get her eating hay and normal food as soon as possible. Also, pick up some probiotics or probiotic emergency food from your vet, which really help to normalise gut funcion after interruption. Something like Oxbow Critical Care. I

Ive not heard of any of the brands you all list in the pet stores here in the states. I will take a look at the feed/tack stores here as there is no pet stores in the area ( hr away drive is the closest). I bought her dust bath at one of them. And no pea flakes... and yes the oats i fed her was a version we feed babies, a flour and i added water as a she needed water inyake too. She was going nuts for it.

Try phoning the vets and ask if they can get you some probiotic emergency/ recovery food, they might have heard of the term Critical Care, they should know what you mean, it definitely exists over there, even if it's a different brand. It's used a lot for rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as degus and other small furries. In UK it's easier to get hold of through a vet or you might find it online, maybe it's similar in the US?
Try offering some hay right away too, the fibre and large particle size are good for her gut.

She has been eating the hay (75%), oats (25%), pellets (20%), rose petals seeds and nuts (5%) that i give her. Im also giving her water and electrolite solution by syrenge still as she hasnt grasped the wster bortle yet. I even tried lowering it a bit so she can reach it to no avail. Her poos seem to be solidifying now thank god

It is just an idea as the degu owner on the other board also mentioned a loss of urine. Please keep in mind, that was a theoretical discussion and the link between flakes and seizures is questionable. Also Lathyrism is not linked to peas (Pisum species) and thus shouldn't be an explanation.

Well... she had been doing well n wanting yo eat the prepared food i have been making her which included cut up timothy hay. Even though she had been eating very well had lost quite a bit of weight. This morning i went to check on her and she was laying kind of on her side and gasping and cold to touch. I knew it would not be long n so i put her in one of my shirts n held her to my chest to warm her. Singing to her n scratching her ear which she was loving. She left me not too long after i started this. I let my dog roxy kiss her good bye, which she didnt understand what was wrong with her. They had grown to be friends...
Sad day as gracissimo was the friendlier degu that was sweet, calm, affectionate, and curious. She loved me to sing to her...

So very sorry for your loss. You both tried so hard for her to make it. At least she went warm and cuddled and loved.

I'm sorry for your loss too, I know how much you bond with a Degu who is relying on you to live and it makes it all the more harder to say goodbye, at least she passed in your arms and that's a lot. xxx

I'm very sorry, what a blow after she was improving. I'm sure she appreciated the care and love you showed, especially at the end.
Rest in peace Gracissimo xx

Oh Tiffa so sorry to hear this! I know people have different opinions, but I commend you on trying so hard to help her, and make her better and give her the best chance instead of giving up on her. Takes real strength to do. Well done on your efforts and I'm so sorry Gracissimo didn't make it! My thoughts are with you.
