Previous title : "I think Thai is dying and its my fault =(" Changed as previous was a little ott..... =S
I thought it would be nice to take the goos to the garden for some sunbathing in their travel cage so I moved them outside onto the patio. They haven't sunbathed in ages as the sun doesn't shine into my room anymore and they used to love it.
After 15minutes they didn't seem very happy so decided to bring them back in instead and Thai managed to get out of the cage.... I took Dega and the cage back indoors very quickly and secured her, then went to look for Thai.
Got her cornered and was just picking her up when the landlady's dog spooked her so she jumped, Rosie (dog) got hold of her for a split second before dropping her.....
Thai ran, I followed at a distance, just noting where she was going, and slowly closed the gap across the garden (dog now elsewhere and uninterested) so as not to scare her too much. She was running fine, but when I got close she looked spooked and unhappy (obviously...) so I spoke to her gently from about a metre away, she didn't run, so moved closer and closer, still speaking quietly until I could scoop her up.
She mauled my thumb then calmed as I held her gently and got her back in doors. Returned the pair to their main cage, after having a quick look at Thai and have now left Thai in the bottom half of the cage with the sand bath, some toilet roll, porridge oats and the snugglesafe while Dega is shut in the top half with the wheel.
I haven't looked Thai over fully, didn't want to scare her anymore, but couldn't see any blood. She did look disorientated and kept trying to lie on her side before moving again and trying to lie down again.
This was all about half hour ago.
She has had a sand bath now and is snuggled down in the corner (darkest bit) of the cage next to the snugglesafe..... But I don't know what to do now =( Dega will only torment her if she goes down to the bottom (she is the top goo), but if Thai is dying I don't want her to die without Dega there as they are very close =(
I feel so bad.............. Knew this week was going to well =(
Any suggestions from anyone? How long should I leave it before trying to get a proper look at her? Should Dega be allowed down the bottom?
PS: Dega is showing no odd behaviour, she seems happy as larry with her wheel, not pining for Thai at all =S Is that a good sign?

Dega is being pretty quiet now... I've let her out of the cage, leaving the bottom door open so she can go to see Thai if she wants but doesn't wind her up, and rather than rushing around like a loon destroying everything, she is stopping for a couple minutes and just starring at stuff, then runs off again and periodically checks in on Thai.
I need to make it known now, that if Thai does pass onto Rainbow Bridge that Dega will need a new home as soon as possible =( I don't have the space, time or money to try and get her new friends and introduce them, and I couldn't bare for her to be without a friend =( Shes a lovely little monkey who deserves the very best =( Let it be known that it will break my heart, but her happiness comes first if Thai doesn't make it =(
I will not expect any money for her, and she will come with the cage and everything I have for them (most is shown in the link in my signature). I am currently living between High Wycombe and Watlington, near the M40, junction 6. I can get to Northamptonshire on weekends and a 20mile radius from OX10 (Benson, Oxfordshire) / OX49 on weeknights.
*Is keeping fingers, toes, arm and legs crossed for Thai to pull through* =(

Thank you Smux. I just feel so bad =(
Going to keep Dega out as much as possible and moved their "fun stuff" to the top half of the cage with the food, while their bedding and water (and some porridge oats which she doesn't seem interested in) is in the bottom so she isn't disturbed.
Thai is looking better but very weak =( She is trying to sleep I think but can hear her very quietly swearing at Dega when she goes to say hello.... Shes not interested in treats and did offer her the water bottle but again she wasnt interested. Will keep that part of the room quiet and dark (they have a lamp over there to simulate daylight to help them keep routine but have turned it off for now) for a few days or until she perks up.
Will try and get a better look at her - there was a wet patch above her shoulder, but was clear rather than red, so figured it was dog saliva rather than blood - when she is willing.
EDIT - didn't notice how the dog got her as by the time i had turned to see her Rosie dropped Thai. Quick glance can't be trusted, but looked like Rosie got her round the middle. Rosie is known for killing rodents, but apparently (according to landlady when I asked before as I found a dead but unharmed mouse upstairs the other day) she gently squeezes til dead rather than bites o.o

Aww jaiye, sounds like you've had a really tough afternoon.
I really hope young Thai is fighting fit soon.
It sounds like it might just be shock (like Smux said), I know that can really take it out of them so lots of rest should be good for her.
Definitely keep us updated, I've got everything crossed for you both!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Don't beat yourself up, accidents happen. Hopefully she'll be running around soon and wondering what all the fuss was about. X

Thank you Blossom x Its hard not to beat yourself up.... Feels like its my fault as I didn't shut the dog in =(
Hope so.... Just had a quick peak in the cage and she is moving around a little. Looks like she just woke up. But if you look at her from her tail towards her head, her hips are really sticking out =S Makes a really obvious V shape and makes her look really thin because they stick up so much.... Almost as if her pelvis were broken or hips dislocated, but then she ran fine earlier and straight up to the middle shelf when back in the cage =S
Photo update in next post of her looking really sorry for herself =( Will keep the wheel up the top and move one food bowl down just in case.

Poorly Thai =( Can slightly see what I meant in my previous post about her hips, this angle shows her looking quite thin there.... Rescue wound and my punishment o.o

I'm so sorry, Jaiye! Your stomach must be in knots over this! I know exactly how you feel. Not blaming yourself is really hard, almost impossible, especially when we sit and think of any number other things we could have done, rather than how it actually went. The thing is, unexpected events happen, even when we are more than careful. Sometimes there is nothing else we could have done. I'll be thinking of you and Thai! Sending you hugs!

She looks a lot like my daisy did when she went into shock (really big board fell over, scared her silly). I found she spent a lot of time stretched out after, keeping her belly low. I guess that's a defence mechanism, tummies are vulnerable areas. As for you, ouch! Keep it nice and clean. :-)

Massive knots DC =( She looks so miserable.... And just put Dega back in the cage (shes been out most of the evening to give Thai some peace) and all she did was try and get behind where Thai is sleeping, so Thai grumbled and moaned a little (not a nice noise...) but Dega kept doing it.... I have now shut Dega in the top of the cage with the wheel and hammock with their fleece in to sleep in tonight while Thai will have the snugglesafe and bed from their travel cage.
Mean Dega.....

fingers crossed for you that Thai is just upset and feeling sorry for himself - hopefully some quiet time and rest will help. I know when Torres broke his leg it was awful watching him obviously in pain and shaken up. really hope tomorrow brings a happier goo x

They can probably spend the night together when it is closer to bedtime, if you want...they should settle down and go to sleep together as normal hopefully. I put her in just before normal bedtime and all she did was torment and upset Thai.... I'll see how it goes during the night and if Dega gets distressed I'll take the divide out =S I'd rather Thai just be left to rest than have to put up with Dega's antics =S They both have a fleece bed that they've both used so should be ok..... I'm quite a light sleeper so should wake if there is a problem.

Oh jaiye, i'm so sorry that happened. But it really isn't your fault, these things really do just happen. Here's hoping she's more in shock than anything else. Do keep us posted, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

SS is currently in the microwave heating up for her as she definitely wants to sleep in! From things i put in the cage to check for movement, she did have at least one more sand bath during the night, raided a few things from the food bowl next to her and ate the porridge oats i left at the edge of her fleece =) She was also lying ontop of the fleece this morning rather than inside it how i left her last night.
Did try some gentle stroking this morning to gauge for any wounds and seems her shoulder is a bit tender and her hips are still really sticky out =S If she lies on the SS directly later on I'll lift it out to get a better look as she has never liked being picked up. If i do manage that I'll try and get a weight as they've never stayed still long enough (even with food on the scales!) for me to weight them =S They have just turned 9months so if anyone has goos of a similar age can they tell me their weights for comparison?
Dega behaved better this morning, didn't try and give Thai grief and has been quiet all morning when usually she has a go at destroying everything in the cage at dawn o.o At least shes accepting Thai isn't feeling so good today =)
Will post later with any changes.

If Thai is still the same tomorrow, I would definately take her to the vet for a checkup. Better safe than sorry
The dog 'may' have damaged some internal organs, or squashed them, I would get the vet to check her out
Hope she continues to improve! (hugs)

I don't think there is anything a vet could do if there is some internal damage except bankrupt me like they did when my polecat got ill years ago (he died after 3 days in the vets).... If it was really bad she'd be dead already, especially after the good 200m she ran round the garden and the shock of it all =( I will keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating and drinking (which she is) and just let her rest. I'll add more toys upstairs to keep Dega amused as well methinks. Going to have a closer look in the next hour or so as their cage needs cleaning out and she is the fleece bed so I can get her out without picking her up.
Will post findings later if she lets me look!

Well cleaning out went well and managed to get a video of Thai when I moved her to a box with her bed and snugglesafe to prevent her wandering off and falling asleep somewhere I couldn't get to! ((Link if above doesn't work - smg.photobucket.com/albums/v242/Draconic_Tendancies/Pets/?action=view¤t=110410Thai.mp4 )) Video shows the thinning by her hips that I tried to describe, though she is able to walk slowly, nearly have a proper bath (video) but can't jump more than a couple centimetres. Makes me think possible broken ribs / hips / thighs or back? She did let me have a feel and nothing felt soft where it should be hard or abnormal compared to the other side (used human first aid skills to compare one side to the other gently, as most creatures are symmetrical like us!), and there weren't any blood patches or puncture wounds. In case one of those is the cause I have moved all toys to the top of the cage out of her line of sight so she doesn't get tempted. She looks like an old degu =( Poor monster... Keeping things calm, quiet and darkish over in their corner and letting Dega out as much as possible to give Thai her rest. She does look a bit happier today, but nowhere near normal.

If she was bad then yes she would more than likely be gone, on the other hand, can you be sure she is not suffering? These little ones are quite good at keeping pain hidden from us, and I would want to be sure she wasnt suffering in any way. I agree, there may be nothing the vet can do, either way, personally I would want to make sure she was ok and just slow in getting over the shock. Always a good sign if she is eating and drinking though
