hi I'm Emma I've just got 2 boys called bubble and squeak. original i know. they are lovely but i am worried about the little arguments they have squeak is defiantly the dominant one even though he is smaller. he gets especially aggressive when food is involved he has to have all the food to him self even if i give them their own piece. got any tips?

Have two bowls for food, and two water bottles. That helps. Also make sure that all the bowls and bottles are in different locations where they are not in the same line of sight. That will help a lot as well.

thanks they are getting better now we've put more activities in the cage an they seem to be co-operating. i don't suppose you know a way to stop them from nibbling the cage. they already have lots of things to chew in the cage but like nibbling the cage. I've read that u can put vinegar on the wires but they seem to like it. any ideas? its quite annoying

Hello! I am a first time Degu Mom. We rescued Dale just yesterday through a craigslist add. Dale and his brother Chip were attacked by a cat in their previous owners home. Chip did not survive. I am going to have lots of questions I am sure as we get through this together Dale and I.

Hello and welcome to the forum! It is adventurous, at times, being a first time owner, but degus definitely make it worth it all. I hope that Dale will adjust to the huge changes in his life. He may become very depressed without having his companion. Have you considered the possibility of getting him a companion?

This is something I would like to know as well. I have wanted to get some nice big branches for our cage, but any apple trees that I have access to only have thin wispy branches. Our pet store has the large branches but they are mangrove wood. I have never bought them because I have never found out if they are safe.
OH!! Also . . . Welcome to the forum!! It sounds like you have been having a wonderful first month with your little degus. They are so much fun, aren't they? We love ours too!

From my experience, pet shops never know any useful information, though a few people seem to be lucky and have a decent pet shop.
Try emailing the staff at Degutopia, they will be a much more trustworthy source.

hi im back. my two boys bubble n squeak have been joined by a young degu but i think its a girl we have named her pickles incase she is infact a he. lol when i read about introducing another degu it said that they might attack the newbie but when i put her in the boys attacked each other instead. if she is a girl i think she might be pregnant an they would b due in december before christmas. it wuld be a nice christmas present if she has some babies. they r a proper little family now squeak would b the daddy but bubbles is very protective of pickles. they r so lovely i have recomended them as pets to most of my friends.

Thank you for letting us know, Jo. That is information I am glad to have. I definitely won't be buying any of that wood for the boys. I don't know what you have access to, but hazelnut wood is also OK for Degus. I don't have access to any, but if you do . . . maybe you can get some branches that way!

No that didn't work for me either. Had to google it, gives me this link might work for others also: http://www.freewebs.com/karynnd/
If not it's the first result on google.
If they ship to the UK I might make an order.
