grow fresh greens from your seed mix

I think I might join you on this Fred, going to do dandelion first and see how they get on!

When I was a child we used to do something similar for our budgie so I had been considering something like this for my degus.
I had thought of a clay pot, either a normal one or the shallow type intended for bulb planting, and mesh over the top. I have seen some copper mesh which has heavier wire than many of the steel meshes. Are they likely to come to any harm from trying to chew copper?

I remade another batch of growing seeds (they wouldn't eat the second bunch until the plant shivelled up and died). Except .... I forgot to take out the sunflower seeds (oops) so I guess the goos get some baby sunflower plants. lol

I mixed my seeds (basic cockatiel mix with millets, canaray grass seeds, safflower and sunflower) with seeds for my cats grass (basic oat grass) so all my animals can eat it hehe. Although the cat is not happy when I cut "his grass" and feed it to the goos.

Cat grass on its own works nicely too. Again not a great horticultural success, but appreciated by my girls. And since cost of natural nutrition has become such an issue on this forum: This was grown form seeds from Poundstretcher, at 50 pence / 700 seeds. With a bit of good will and interest, one can do a lot.
