 Three little piggies!
« Thread Started on Nov 6, 2009, 5:16am »

So!! This evening I knew I didn't have time to sit in with the boys and give them a run out of the cage, so I did the next best thing. I opened the cage door and ran for the bedroom door, closing it before any furry bodies could make a run for it. Even if I wasn't in there, they could at least have some floor time. After that, I proceeded to my son's room to make up a fresh bed and pop him in it . . . after the prerequisite number of stories of course. FINALLY I had him all tucked in, kissed, kissed, and kissed again, and I could close the door knowing he would soon be asleep. Now for the three furry boys!

I opened the door to the bedroom, vigilantly on the watch for any sneaky little boys that might think they can sneak past me . . . into the waiting jaws of our standard poodle. :o :o :o Everyone is being good, and I get in and re-shut the door without incident. All three are very excited to see me, leaping up onto a ledge and from there onto a tall plastic container that they regularly use to gain a satisfactory height from which they climb up the front of me. LOL!! It's amusing and a little hair raising at the same time. It's hard to tilt backward far enough to prevent them from falling off, but not fall over myself. Anyway, they are ready to climb to my shoulders and have a bedtime snack. I figured that I would give them a helping hand tonight and elevator lift them up with my hands. Two of them went for it, while the third abruptly abandoned "tall plastic container" and went MIA. I was puzzled, usually he is the first one up on my shoulder. Oh well, I thought, once he hears the succulent rattle of sunny seeds being counted out into my hand, he'll come a runnin! I reached out my hand to pick up the jar . . . but it wasn't there. What the . . .? It's always there! I looked around and the first thing I saw was the bag of puffed veggie bites that we buy for treats. Now what was it doing on the floor? It was up on top of the dresser . . . well out of reach when I let them out. My eyes continued looking and there, about 12 centimeters away was the over turned jar that USED to hold the sunny seeds. I put the two boys I was still holding into the cage and then crouched down to have a closer look. Sure enough . . . every single one was opened and empty! That was at least a 1/3 of a cup of seeds!! How on earth did they get them??? Reep was not coming over to see me, so while he was busy hiding, I started to refill the hay rack, which was empty. Once that was done I twisted it shut and sealed it, then put it back on the ledge beside the cage . . . OH HO!!! It was all my fault! I had given them the perfect access to the top of the dresser. All they had to do was walk out of the open cage door, sashay to their right about ten degu steps, climb up the bag of hay, and jump half a hand span onto the dresser top. Once there, oh the world of wonderful treats that was open to them!!! THEY PIGGED OUT!!

The hay is now on the floor, under the cage. Reep did come to me after I called him a couple of times. Even walked right up my leg to sit on my knee so that I could scoop him up and put him back in the cage. I guess he figured that he had been so naughty with the seeds and treats that he had better be good about coming to me so I could put him to bed. I think they are going to be experiencing a good span of time before they enjoy their next mouthful of treat! LOL! Just as bad as my kids with their halloween candy bags.
