Dusty...they are stick on, push lights (LEDs)... I bought them from TArget. It was $8 for a 2 pack and each take 3 AAA batteries. They attach with an adhesive backing.. And you kinda slide the light part off of the plastic part thats adhered to the wood, for easy changing of the batteries. They're real bright for cheap lights, and the degus aren't interested in chewing them just have to be willing to change batteries. And I will see how long they last, and I'll make a post about it

Well after three months of having a monstrosity in the middle of the lounge I can happily say that on Saturday our little monsters moved into their palace. Before I update my blog on the whole process I thought I'd share some choice photos with you all! Front on view Digging Pit entrance Digging Pit First Floor Serrano Exploring Pimento figuring out what real stones are for the first time MrMarkys handiwork I have already decided to modify it slightly! I raised the sandbath up as they managed to kick hay and Finacard into it within the first 24 hours I am going to add a viewing pane into the digging pit and drop the door frame down so the lid matches up with the top shelf and I will be adding lighting this weekend due to the miserable excuse we are having for a summer! But I am pleased to report that the girls are settling in well - I think they were freaked out for the first day just purely because of the amount of space they have got now. And we haven't had to sweep the lounge floor since Saturday morning!

Thank you both - the Goos seem very happy (if not a little lost at the moment! Lol). I loved doing it knowing that everything was designed with our girls in mind and they love the digging pit in particular.

Hello, Bryonagetz. Are you asking for advice for your Parrot? I just want to be sure I am understanding you, because this is a degu forum . . . and though there are a number of us that do have birds . . . we deal primarily with the care, housing, and maintenance of degus. As a result, there are no threads that deal with parrots.

I've previously loaded pics of my X-Trail cage which houses my two boys Alvin and Theodore. Since then we have rehomed first 2 girls, Poppy and Hazel, followed by another 2 girls, Petal and Daisy. We have successfully introduced them and they have lived together now for about 6 months. They came with tiny cages which we have gradually added to by buying 2nd hand thickets cages, an old rat cage and a handmade wooden cage and although it looks a bit ramshackle, now that they are all joined together they have so much space and are absolutely loving it. You will have to excuse my pictures as the room they are in is tiny and I can't get far enough away to fit the whole cage in the picture!

And the last one. The pictures don't really do it justice. It is about 7 foot wide and 5 ft high at it's tallest part. The girls don't knoww hat to do 1st and are running round the whole place constantly exploring. They don't care that I can no longer sit at my computer desk because the chair doesn't fit in beside their new cage!!! Attachments:

Great work, Mel, with the cage, the adoptions and the cage! The cage looks really fab, it's brilliant how you can make something really amazing for degus by combining smaller cages Have they only just moved in to the full montey version? PS you can only put one picture per reply unless you host the pictures somewhere like photobucket.

Thanks Moletteuk! Yes they have only just moved into the complete version. They just had the thickets cages before so their space has more than quadrupled. Its great to see them have so much fun! They weren't too impressed with all the banging and cutting when we were connecting them all but hopefully now they think its worth it.

All of these cages are wow just wow! Homemade cages seem to be so good nowadays, I'm definitely going to need to improve my woodwork to compete up to these standards. Thanks everyone for sharing they're handy work

tainted - the best way to easy yourself in to DIY building is to take an old piece of furniture like a wardrobe or chest of drawers and modify it.
I have done two (human) houses from scratch so mine was a pleasure to do from a hobby perspective, as well as a way of finishing off our lounge.
I'll post a picture of the modified finished article soon and play pen.
