Does anyone know of any wood glues that are safe for degus in the UK? I've been looking round but can't seem to find any.

Eeee . . . thats a good question, and I have no idea what the answer may be. Sorry! I am sure there are others that can answer this though.

It was for their wooden wheel that I was going to attempt repairing with a loose bottom tin and also if I decide to use some wood that's vulnerable to their teeth for hides, steps etc as nobody trusts my co-ordination with actual tools

uk.gorillaglue.com/eng/glues/glue-list/1/3/gorilla-wood-glue.html This could be worth looking into, you do have to be careful as some glue contains formaldehyde and other nastys. You could always try making your own glues by mixing flour and water then heating for 5 mins (takes ages to dry and not very strong with wood and such) or 1 cup tapioca starch 4 Tablespoons of sugar 2 cups of cold water Mix starch, water and sugar in a sauce pan until all ingredients are dissolved. Stir over medium heat until it forms a paste. This mixture should be stored in an airtight container that just fits the amount that you have left. not sure how good this is, just something i have been told about and not sure about the suger in it with Degus I know there are other glues that you can use but i cant think of them ATM. When i think of more i'll let you know ;D

Hmm I think it'll need to be strong glue for the wheel, I doubt they'll manage to eat it anyway, I'm planning on making the wooden backboard a close fit to the tin otherwise I'll need a new stand lol.

I think you'll need superglue or two part epoxy to have a chance of sticking metal to wood - I've never had long term success with that combination! I think you might need some tiny dome head screws.

Yeah I thought I might, of course a very snug fit might help things along. If it comes to screws and stuff I'll just enlist my dad's help!

Contact adhesive would stick that i would think but that stuff is not good for humans so i would hate to say what it would do to our little furry friends. It might be worth looking in to some polyurethane glue (PU glue) as i think this is made from organic compounds, not too sure on that as its been afew years since i done my adhesive training

Yeah, I know what mine are like as well, they love a challenge when it comes to wood so they would find a way to chew :/

Aquarium sealant is non-toxic and is what we use for gerbil gluings? it sticks wood to glass so I think it would do wood to wood too?

AH HA!! I had forgotten about Aquarium sealant . . . it was mentioned on the forum a couple of years back. That is a safe and viable option!

It sounds like it might be the best option for an attempt, if it doesn't work then there's no harm done
